We had a great time taking the girls to the Eccles Theater for the first production as part of our season tickets. The girls had a great time critiquing the dancing and costumes.

An American in Paris is a musical adapting of the 1951 movie by the same name. The 2014 Gershwin musical is a redux of the movie with a lot of dancing and reuse of older classical musical songs.

Plot: Set in post-WW2 Paris, this is a love story. In fact, if you like RomCom movies, this is perfect for you.

Music: Nothing really jumped out at me or is overly memorable. In fact, the only songs that are really catchy are from older musicals.

Costumes & Sets: The lighting used in this show was incredible and probably the best I’ve seen. There’s a reason it won a Tony for “Best Lighting Design.”

Dancing: lots and lots of dancing, especially the finale. The choreography was superb.

Acting: The acting at this level is usually remarkable and this was no exception.
